Winter Lipstick Combos

Twas’ the night before having to drop off my kid to preschool and I found myself playing around in my lipstick drawer like we all do, so I decided to group together some of the recent colors I’ve been wearing and a few I intend to wear throughout the rest of the season.  Was that just a run-on sentence I wrote? Ok, here we go.

1. MAC Verve Lipstick.  MAC’s Verve is one of their original first lipstick shades created.  This is the 90’s shade on trend right now moreso than infamous Kylie Jenner’s MAC Soar Lip Pencil obsession.  No really, research it and you’ll find out that this is the exact shade girls on the runway were wearing in the 90’s.  It’s a beauty and I owned this way before this trend came back because blotted its very classy and gentle.  I’ve been through several of these tubes.

The eyeshadow shades are perfect. They are soft and packed with pigment. They honestly blow the Naked palette shadows out of the water. I’m not sure if I’m the only one that feels this way or not, but they are far more pigmented and less powdery than UD’s other palette shadows. There isn’t a whole lot to say about the shades themselves other than to say that one leans warm and one leans cool. The palette is just simply PERFECT.

Mrs. Mia Wallace. I’m just so in love with her…though with all red lipsticks, it’s high maintenance in terms of application and having it’s liner counterpart was extremely helpful. I’d say I’m not entirely sold on Urban Decay’s 24/7 lip pencil formula. A quick side note, Mrs. Mia Wallace, Anarchy and 69 are not exact dupes as you’ll see in swatches below…both Anarchy and 69 have a slight more blue base to them. But Anarchy and 69 are very similar to one another and I wouldn’t see why anyone would need Mrs. Mia Wallace, 69 and Anarchy.

Lord make it stop, I want them all.  But I do have mixed feelings about some of these however overall they are a great formula.  The darker shades are far more pigmented than the lighter ones in terms of initial opacity of application.  The lighter ones you have to really layer a lot.  With that being said though, I’m more of a fan of the nude shades which is purely preference not product flaw.  The darker brighter shades do stain very badly, if you aren’t in the market for stain run away from these.  But on particular days I’m all about a bold lip, I just wish It literally didn’t take a week to remove off my skin fully.  Thanks for stopping by and checkin’ out the post.

IT Cosmetics Micro-Airbrush Blurring Brush Set Review

After constantly getting irritated skin and developing skin allergies from natural bristled (animal haired) brushes I began the long search for synthetic brushes.  There are many good brands that make options, but after getting a fan brush from It Cosmetics, there was no going back!

thoughts

I personally use the Powder brush for bronzer application as I don’t need an all over powder for setting my makeup. I use the Angled Complexion brush for blush application as its intended purpose. The Flawless Foundation Brush is PERFECT for contouring particularly because I use my fingers or a Beauty Blender only for foundation application. The Blurring Concealer Brush is quite large and I use this moreso as a brush for highlighting the cheekbones interchangeably with a Mac 225. The Eyeshadow Crease Brush is larger than I’d like it to be considering I have very small eyes but it does do the job effectively. The Allover Eyeshadow Brush is again larger in size but I think it’s fabulous for an all over denser wash of color, which I do often instead of in depth looks using multiple colors and techniques. Finally the No-Tug Eyeliner & Eyebrow Brush is way too big for eyeliner application in my opinion. It is also too big for brow application in my case where I have sparse brows and use a precise application technique with pomade. Though I suggest keeping in mind that these two situations are in my case and/or for those who has smaller extreme deepest eyes such as myself. I believe all these brushes will fabulous for MOST people. They are still fabulous for me, though they will serve a different purpose for me than originally designed for…but really that’s the case for any brush and for any person. The No-Tug Eyeliner Eyebrow brush is really the only brush in this set that will likely go unused in my collection and that’s ok with me because the set is COMPLETELY worth it.

Asthetically, do I really need to say much? No…THEY ARE BEAUTIFUL. Finely constructed, crafted and obviously made with high quality materiels. I have paired my brush collection down considerably as I have recently developed an allergy to animal haired brushes. These of coarse are synthetic and they feel simply luxurious and amazing. I can honestly say, other than the It Cosmetics brush that I previously owned (Heavenly Luxe Mega Fan Brush), that these are hands down the finest brushes that I’ve owned EVER.

And can we just note the BEAUTIFUL crystal inlay on the bottom of each handle? Talk about a classy company!

This set also came with a super posh brush stand. When I initially saw the stand in the pictures on the website it appeared to be cheap plastic. I was underwhelmed by its appearance but honestly didn’t care because that wasn’t why I wanted to buy the set. When I opened the box I was blown away by it. It feels like a heavy polished glass/ stone. I can’t find anywhere on the site, packaging or manufacturers description what it is made of.

IMG_1617

Cleaning. I used the Beauty Blender solid cleanser with all my brushes and these are no exception. It was a breeze and I was initially concerned as I am with all synthetic brushes, that dry time would be a nightmare. WRONG. These dried freakishly and unexpectedly quicker than my Mac brushes.

Overall. One word. OUTSTANDING.

For size comparison purposes I have laid out some “beauty community” community standard brushes next to the It Cosmetics brushes. I think you’ll be surprised by the size of these brushes.  Thanks again for stopping by and I hope that you enjoyed the post.

So, is it worth it?

thoughts

ABSOLUTELY! This is hands down, my favorite palette thus far. So the texture of these shades differ among each other greatly depending on finish.  The matte shades are silky, the satin shades are soft and saturated, the shimmers are buttery smooth and the few with glitter particles are very dry and flaky.  So why would this be my favorite palette?  I think its the combination of colors they have chosen to put together honestly.  None of the colors are that unique but they are VERY wearable and super easy to work with, with exception to the glitter shades.  For me, this palette is way worth it based on shades, bendability and pairing options.

thoughts

So here’s the thing, in reference to swatches…these appear to not be so pigmented.  This is moreso when you are swatching them for yourself at home.  I swatched these heavily for photo/blog purposes.  These shadows have a sophistication to them that is unique to mid/high end range shadows such as Mac.  Mac shadows can be hard and patchy.  Urban Decay shadows are smooth but powdery.  These are soft, not powdery, have zero fallout and blend amazingly.  They have a delicate or sophisticated pigmentation which I prefer over those shadows that have such good pigmentation that they take a tremendous amount of time to blend.  You know what I’m saying right, when one color won’t blend with another color because the first color is so pigmented?  I hope my points are coming across.  These are great, effortless would be the best word for them.  Perhaps they’d be boring for the artistic eyeshadow enthusiast.
